Road to zero global warming from high-powered merchant marine propulsion systems

Traditionally, merchant ships are consisting of various products and equipment skillfully engineered together for the best “fit for purpose”.
Today. the pressure on green house gas emission reduction from global shipping is building rapidly and zero carbon scenarios are being actively discussed.
To get to this “zero global warming from merchant shipping”, new ways of integrating propulsion system by dynamic energy management approaches with the main consumers on board need to considered. These consumer must be operated on renewable sources, carbon free or zero carbon fuels, and combined with intelligent systems that continuous optimize energy consumption depending on cargo, route, weather, itinerary and fouling effects.
In this speech, WinGD will show how we tackle this challenge by combining the update of the traditional engines for new fuels, adding electrification and energy management, and using data and intelligence to continuously learn and improve.
