Juha Schweighofer

Juha Schweighofer joined the LSSTF Program Committee in 2024, bringing valuable expertise and a strong focus on the increasingly important topic of inland waterway transport to the forum.
He graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology as MSc and DSc in Technology (ship technology) in 1997 and 2003. He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. From 1996 till 2005, he assumed several positions up to senior researcher at the Helsinki University of Technology (research assistant, researcher, senior researcher, project manager). Currently, he works for via donau – Österreichische Wasserstarßen-G.m.b.H. as Top Expert for Ship Technology, dealing with professional tasks aiming at the improvement of the environmental performance and climate resilience of inland waterway transport. He has 29 years of comprehensive experience in research and development in ship technology (ship hydrodynamics and CFD, inland waterway vessels,
engine solutions, performance assessment) and project work, as well as management of numerous EU projects (FP5, FP6, FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe), e.g. EFFORT, ERASTAR, CREATING, Supergreen, MoVe IT!, PROMINENT, PLATINA3 and SYNEREGTICS. He was a Member of the ITTC (Resistance Committee, 2002-2005) and chairs the Committee 125 (shipbuilding) of Austrian Standards International. He is a native speaker of German and Finnish, and fluent in English.
