Prof. Dr.-Ing. Friedrich Wirz is recognized as a leading expert in marine engineering and maritime propulsion systems. Following senior positions in the maritime industry at MAN Diesel & Turbo and Hatlapa, he became Head of the Marine Engineering Research Group at Hamburg University of Technology (TU Hamburg) in 2013.

With the establishment of ISM GmbH in 2023, he consolidated his extensive experience in research, industry, and consulting. His expertise is regularly sought for expert opinions, failure analyses, and the assessment of complex marine engineering systems.

His research focuses on hybrid propulsion systems, alternative marine fuels, and the decarbonization of the shipping industry.
