Joined AVL in 2009 as a development engineer for large gas engines. Have been involved in several new gas engine development projects, conversion projects from diesel to gas or diesel to dual fuel both for power generation and marine applications, as well as performance development projects of existing gas engines. Since 2017 Technical Expert for gas and duel fuel large engines.
Diesel ignited combustion concepts for hydrogen, ammonia and methanol
There is growing interest in switching from fossil fuels to carbon-neutral alternatives. Yet, the redundancy of running engines on conventional fuels is highly valued, especially in marine applications. This study outlines feasible dual-fuel combustion concepts and expected applications for alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol. Their advantages and challenges will be described based on test results measured on single-cylinder engines.
