New Ammonia Technologies for Decarbonization of Shipping and Sustainable Economic Value Chains

Ammonia is a key to replace fossil fuels and offers economic opportunities for the rapid decarbonization of shipping. Innovative technologies such as decentralized ammonia production, crackers, engines and direct ammonia fuel cells, as well as developments in bunkering and refueling, are being brought to market at rapid pace. There remains a pressing need to develop the legal framework and make technical information on ammonia safety accessible to policymakers, customers, and the general public.
