ISM GmbH

After completing his master’s degree in naval architecture, Thilo joined Meyer Werft as a project engineer in the mechanical engineering department. In 2019, he returned to the Hamburg University of Technology, where he conducted in-depth research on alternative marine fuels and hybrid propulsion systems. In 2023 he founded a spin-off-company called ISM. Thilo’s work aims to do more than just design individual energy systems; he strives to quickly compare different configurations, thereby enabling the formulation of comprehensive, data-driven and informed strategies for entire fleets.

From Design to Operation: Data-Driven Decision Support for Efficient Maritime Energy Systems

Maritime decarbonization requires linking vessel design with real-world operation. This talk presents a data-driven framework developed with Flotte Hamburg that integrates AIS-based movement analysis, energy simulation, emission tracking and forecasting, and hybrid system optimization. Results are translated into interactive dashboards and operational hints for ship crews. By connecting digital twins, fleet analytics, and onboard decision support, the approach enables transparent, informed, and economically sound energy system operation.
