Johannes Oeffner

Fraunhofer CML

Johannes is a Team Leader at the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services CML in Hamburg. His work focusses on Research and Innovation activities for the maritime sector via initiating and implementing future-oriented technologies and processes in the field of Maritime Robotics, Autonomous Shipping and Ship Efficiency technologies.

Johannes holds a Master of Science in Biomimetics/Locomotion in Fluids from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen. He has a background in biology, biomimetics, fluid dynamics and hydroacoustics and established a track record in the field of sustainable technologies for the waterborne transport and maritime sector. Johannes initiated and coordinated the EU-Project AIRCOAT, with the aim to developing a passive air lubrication ship hull coating, as well as RoboVaaS, with the goal to develop on-demand port services based on unmanned underwater and surface vessels. His team develops biomimetic solutions, robotic assistance systems and emission sensors for the maritime sector using numerical and experimental fluid dynamics, rapid prototyping and technology assessments being currently involved in the EU projects RAPID, SeaClear and SeaClear2.0.
